Israeli Consul in New York: "The Pittsburgh attack was the most serious anti-Semitic act since the AMIA bombing"

Itongadol/AJN.- The General Consul of Israel in New York, Dani Dayan, claimed that the attack on the Pittsburgh synagogue in Pennsylvania, in the United States, was "the most serious anti-Semitic act since the AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires".
In exclusive statements to the AJN News Agency, the diplomat sent a strong message to world leaders warning that "if we do not stop now" with anti-Semitic attacks, "the results are going to be even more tragic".
"If we do not take into account terrorist acts in Israel, the Pittsburgh attack was the most serious anti-Semitic act since the AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires", Dayan said when asked about the repercussion of the incident that took place last October 27 and left 11 dead and several injured.
The diplomat rejected the versions that gave account of a low repercussion of this attack in the American society.
“A few months ago I participated, unfortunately, in an act that pointed to the murder of an elderly Jewish woman in her apartment in Paris, in France. In summary, it was concluded that in France there were eleven Jews murdered for anti-Semitism in a decade. Here we have eleven murdered Jews in one day. That explains the repercussion that this event had, which is the most serious anti-Semitic act in the history of the United States”, he said.
However, Dayan clarified that in the United States "massacres of this type are against homosexuals, African-Americans, boys in a school and this time it was against Jews".
"I have not the slightest doubt that it was an anti - Semitic act carried out by an extremist who did not even hide his anti-Semitism”, he argued referring to Robert Bowers, who was identified by authorities as who broke into the synagogue Tree of Life and murdered the worshippers.
Asked if this attack modifies the pace of life of Jews in the United States, Dayan said that "depends on the future," but clarified that he hopes that "does not drastically change the lives of Jewish communities".
"I said it in a ceremony at the Jewish community of Pittsburgh, now they have two options: to hide or appear more in the synagogues, in Jewish events. Experience shows that if one hides, life changes dramatically and negatively", he said.
At this point, the consul commented that the Israeli government sent a group of five collective trauma specialists, five psychologists and social workers to the United States to care for the families of the victims and the Jewish community of Pittsburgh. "They worked all week with the Jewish community and did an extraordinary job", he added.
Dayan appreciated the solidarity expressed by the governments of different countries, but warned that "the day of never is never now”.
"It's time to put it to the test and show that when we say that we say it with real intent. I am not saying that we are in the Germany of the 1930s, we are not even in Russia at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th", he clarified.
In this sense, the diplomat added that the difference with those moments in history is that "today we have experience and if we do not stop now the results will be more tragic".
Finally, Dayan evaluated as "very positive" that the United States and other countries have decided to move their embassies in Israel to Jerusalem.
